I found this little snippet in the following site: http://ehealthforum.com/
People are often baffled by the powerful nature of addiction and many, including many Health professionals, are confused and often badly informed about one of the major ingredients of addiction; namely , the changes that take place in the persons chemical system. The following is only one of the ingredients that make up the recipe of addiction but certainly a powerful factor.

Neurotransmitters: the science of addiction
Doctors have identified the neurotransmitter “dopamine” as a naturally occurring brain chemical that is linked to emotion and motivation.  During drug use, dopamine can be over-produced or may not be metabolized in a normal way, and creates an intense sense of euphoria or pleasure.  Over time, the brain itself reacts to these higher than normal levels of dopamine in the brain.  The brain may respond by either producing less dopamine itself, or by reducing the ability to receive as much dopamine.  The result?  A person has to use more and more of the drug in order to feel ‘normal’ or in order to get the previous high.

What is drug addiction?
A person addicted to a substance – any substance – experiences a strong psychological urge to consume a drug, chemical or mind – altering substance.

3 STEPS TO TRUE HAPPINESS

Norm Ephraim, Ed.D.

Let’s face it. We all want to be happy. We all realize, sooner or later, that outer success does not produce lasting happiness. So what does? Loving ourselves and loving others. In fact, we can only love others authentically when we love ourselves. So why is it that some people seem to feel self love easily, while others spend their lives searching in relationships or career accomplishments to find it?

While it may seem cliche, the answer does seem to point to experiences in childhood. What we know as self esteem begins, originally, in the esteem parents have for their children. Through the simplest acts of touch, attention to feelings, and guidance toward accomplishment, a child comes to see their own worth reflected in their parents’ eyes. They see themselves as love-able i.e. worthy and able to be loved. These feelings are so powerful that they have been found to influence longevity.

May 17   Report From Dubai

Well folks, I am here in Dubai for a few days work and all is well on the food front. I havent got on the scales for a while buthave dropped a size and a half on trousers and one on shirts – so I am pretty happy with that.

Time to up the excercise since I feel more energy now and walking at a good pace.

Since I have cut out wheat I have had no asthma, bloated feeling or heartburn so my guess is I have an intolerance to Gluten.

Dubai is a shock to the system in many ways – surprising, awesome, interesting, stunning,  and horrible all at once. It is as though some one said “here is a long stretch of ocean with a wonderful beach, now build a city to house as many as possible – money no object.” In fact that is probably exactly what happened. It is not unlike something out of bladerunner without skycars. The building are mostly mega highrise and extremely modern. The tallest building in the world is here. It made me feel dizzy just looking at it. I will post some photos when I get back.

Al
